About Figures In Space 關於

Tai chi and qi gong flows for everyone. Mindful movement that isn't too much.

I'm Joseph Evans, the instructor of Figures In Space Tai Chi. I teach people who want to slow down, get in touch with their energy and move safely, especially those with limited mobility.

My teachers 師父

Dr Adam Potts, PT

A licensed physical therapist and tai chi teacher (Begin with Breath Tai Chi). His approach blends traditional tai chi and qi gong with accessible, modern movement so everyone can practice regardless of mobility. The tai chi & qi gong flow class he taught me is the class I teach.

Shifu Heng Chao 釋恆超

A 35th-generation Shaolin master who trained at the Songshan Shaolin Temple in Henan and now leads the USA Shaolin Kung Fu Academy at 969 Federal Blvd in Denver, where I have studied with him.

Being honest about what I teach

The class I'm qualified to teach is the tai chi & qi gong flow I learned from Dr Potts. Everything else on this site, from the other qi gong sets to the martial arts encyclopedia and the philosophy, is me sharing what I know and what I'm still learning. Please treat it as one student passing things along, and seek out the lineage teachers in the Atlas for deeper training.

At Figures In Space you'll find tai chi and qi gong instruction, guided meditations, and lessons from a variety of Eastern philosophies, modern neurological science and even quantum physics – worlds that share a surprising amount in common.

My approach

  • The flow first: a gentle tai chi & qi gong flow, adapted seated or standing.
  • All ages, shapes, sizes and genders: seated or standing, nobody is left out.
  • Safe practice first: comfortable ranges, clear cues and plenty of rest.
  • Grassroots community: free classes on YouTube, requests always welcome.

Why "Figures In Space"?

Every tai chi posture is a figure drawn in space – a shape of the body moving through the air around us. Practice links those figures together into a flowing, living meditation.
