Lazy About Tying Coat 懶紮衣
Lǎn zhā yī
How to do it
Chen-style opening move: the right hand spirals outward in a large circle as the right foot steps out, ending with the palm extended at shoulder height, left hand on hip – like tucking a robe into the belt.
Step by step
- Start with the weight on the left leg, hands crossed in front
- Step the right foot wide to the right, heel first
- Shift the weight right as the right hand spirals out in a large arc to shoulder height
- Settle the left hand on the hip or waist
- turn the right palm slightly out and sink
Breathing
Inhale as you gather and step; exhale as the hand spirals out and settles.
Health focus
Hip opening, spiral coordination (silk reeling), leg strength.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the arm without the body turning
- Weight stuck on the left leg
Martial meaning
Leads the opponent's arm outward and opens their center.
